ABOUT IVGO EST. 2015 · BELFAST

We take the music
of your childhood
seriously.

Based out of Belfast. Live orchestra, video playback, energising light show.

A collective of talented, forward thinking musicians. Any orchestral musician interested in joining is welcome to contact us.

Every member is a volunteer.
Arrangements written in-house.
No paid staff.
Just people who love the music.

The Irish Video Game Orchestra was founded in 2015 in Belfast. We exist to give the composers behind Final Fantasy, Zelda and Skyrim the same treatment given to classical music, and even film music in the last few decades.

What started as a small group of volunteer musicians has grown into something we're still slightly startled by. In 2027 we take the stage in London for our largest operation to date: a full orchestra and choir performing a programme that spans the medium's history, with hosts and guests drawn from the games we've spent our lives playing.

We are a charity, not a touring franchise. Every musician on stage is a volunteer. Every penny goes back into the next concert, the next commission, the next person who picks up an instrument because they heard the Final Fantasy prelude played live. The work is the point.

Plenty of orchestras have worked out that video game music sells tickets. Fewer of them have actually finished the games.

Who's this muppet in the Youtube thumbnail? He's a bit older now (and somehow even MORE talented), but if you want to understand what our video game orchestra is about, this is the video to watch.

THE PEOPLE

The people who make this happen.

We believe.

01 / TENET
Game music is music.

Not "as good as." Not "surprisingly." It is the defining score tradition of the last thirty years and belongs on any serious concert programme. We will die on this hill. Happily.

02 / TENET
The orchestra comes first.

Every programming decision starts with the music. If we can't do it properly, we don't do it. No shortcuts, no half measures.

03 / TENET
The door is open.

Any orchestral musician who loves video game music is welcome to audition. No experience of game music required. Just the instrument and the enthusiasm.

04 / TENET
Non-profit approach.

The IVGO is a registered charity. We run on the energy of our members and volunteers. We make it happen without core funding. Surplus goes back into the next concert.
